Smart Clinical Trials Designed With Cutting Edge Technology - ACRI India

Technology has made its mark everywhere. All across the globe, newer innovations are coming up every day to make life easy, fast, and comfortable for today’s people. And, in the process, the field of clinical research is not left anywhere behind. Technological innovations in the clinical research space have given rise to amazing developments in the drug development arena. Four “smartclinical trial programs have been developed that have brought about significant results for the medical field, involving both medical practitioners and patients.

Artificial Intelligence
Ever since cognitive computing systems have been used, the enrollment of patients into clinical trials has seen a significant increase. The use of Artificial Intelligence has enabled valuable learning lessons in protocol designs. Where manually processing patients can take somewhere up to 2 hours, the same number of patients can be assessed in just half an hour when Artificial Intelligence is used! Such rapidness and intelligent usage of technology can increase patient compliance, thus leading to incredible number of benefits!

Blockchain based clinical trials
Blockchain based clinical trial is a decentralized, distributed, and public digital ledger that records transactions across multiple computers, so that the records cannot be altered retroactively, without altering all subsequent blocks and collusion of the network. Although this technology has been around for a decade, it is understood only by approximately 20% of the population. With connection to cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Blockchain provides absolute source data verification across clinical trial processes; also providing transparency and collaboration among organizations, while preserving patient privacy.

In Silico Clinical Trials (ISCT)
ISCT is an individualized computer simulation used in the development or regulatory evaluation of a medicinal product, device, or intervention. Some organizations run trials without actual patients and drugs. Instead, they use ISCTs to analyze diverse datasets and explore alternative study designs. These kinds of trials are useful where the population to be tested is rare or challenging; for example, in rare diseases or where newborns or children are required. Such trials ensure less or no wastage of resources.

Digital pills
In November 2017, the US FDA approved the world’s first digital pill for the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar-I disorder, and depression. Known as Abilify MyCite, this was a tablet with a sensor embedded in the pill, with the system including a wearable patch sensor, a smartphone app, and web-based portals. Once ingested, the stomach’s acid activates the sensor in the pill, which is detected and recorded by the wearable patch. This patch then transmits the information to the app, which can be viewed via a Web-based dashboard by selected members of the patient’s healthcare team and family. The main aim of these digital pills is to enhance collaboration with healthcare providers who treat patients with certain serious mental illnesses. However, these pills are available to only a limited number of carefully selected patients.

To gain access to these smart clinical trial technologies and many others that are to come, you need to get yourself into the clinical research industry as a dedicated professional. And, to help you with that, you can have yourself enrolled with one of the top clinicalresearch institutes in Bangalore, like Avigna Clinical Research Institute, who has been providing the most superlative education from top professionals in the industry, and 100% internship and placement guarantee in top CROs, Bio-techs, and Pharmaceutical companies.
